A man of letters patron of men of letters. Some refl exions upon a recentedition of Maecenas’ fragments and of the Latin testimonies on the historicalpersonage.
Starting from a recent remarkable edition of Maecenas’ fragments, thearticle examines various aspects of the composite personality of Augustus’‘minister’ and how he was considered by his contemporaries and byLatin writers of the successive ages.
