Abstract

Vitruvius and the basilica at Fano

The purpose of this paper is to show Vitruvius as an example of
middle-class’ social mobility at the end of the Republican age and to suggest how the basilica at Fano with the aedes Augusti, can be interpreted as one of the first intromission of the State into the autonomy
of a city.
