Abstract

The imperial property in the Calabria of the second Augustan regio:some considerations
In this paper, the Author proposes some reflections on the origin of theImperial properties in the Roman Calabria, on the basis of epigraphicaland literary evidence. The result of this analysis shows that an unit ofthese properties is likely to have had origin from Mark Antony’s estates, inherited by his son, Iullus Antonius, and daughters, Antonia maior andAntonia minor, as Dio reports. From the properties of Antonia maiorthe estates of Domitia Lepida might also derive, as Tacitus tells in Annales 12, 65. Subsequently these land properties, for various reasons, passed to the imperial patrimony, as epigraphical documents of imperialliberti and servi prove.
