Abstract

Some remarks on literature, history and hermeneuticsThe focus of the article is threefold. Firstly, I will discuss the conceptof literary criticism and hermeneutics according to Fr. Schlegel andFr. D.E. Schleiermacher respectively as well as their reception by W.Benjamin. Secondly, W. Benjamin’s hermeneutical approach to thework of art is compared with the Warburgian idea of art history. Finally, the article examines the influence of the Platonic and the Aristotelian tradition on the development of literary criticism.
