Abstract

This paper deals with jewelry from the cremation burials (late 8thlate 7th century BCE) that were discovered in the 1920s at Hephaestia (Lemnos), which were published but not given sufficient scholarly attention. The manufacturing and decoration on display here are peculiar to funerary jewelry (that is, composed of a plain or stamped sheet that is very thin, and not always done with care). Although it is possible that the jewelry was the fruit of local workmanship, the types that they represent are, with a very few exceptions, strongly inspired by models documented in the LPG-SPG tombs of Lefkandi and Skyros. This further proves that Iron-Age Lemnos belonged to the cultural Euboean koiné.
