RITRATTI DI ‘POSIDONIO’ E ‘ZENONE’ SECONDO ALONSO CHACÓN
Abstract
This paper deals with drawings of two Greek portraits (Pesaro, Biblioteca Oliveriana, ms. 59, ff. 203v, 220r), which were identified as ‘Posidonius’ and ‘Zenon’ by the Dominican scholar Alonso Chacón. I argue, conversely, that the drawings seem to reproduce images of Hippocrates and Anacreon. I suggest to link these images to specific replicas of the newly identified portraits, which circa 1680 were owned by Domenico de’ Cammei and the Stampa brothers, as we know through the precious evidence that is granted us by the Chaconian captions.
