Abstract

The present essay provides the first analysis of the epithalamium entitled The genius of Egypt written in Sahidic Coptic by Amedeo Peyron in 1842 on the occasion of the wedding of King Vittorio Emanuele II with Maria Adelaide of Austria. The choice of writing it in Coptic is justified by the desire to present the House of Savoy as heir to the greatness of Pharaonic Egypt.
