IL TOFET DI ALTHIBUROS (EL KEF - TUNISIA) FRA TRADIZIONE PUNICA E ROMANIZZAZIONE: LA COLLABORAZIONE DELL’UNIVERSITÀ DI PISA AL PROGRAMMA DI RICERCA

Abstract

A few years ago a tofet, the shrine consacreted to Baal Ammon of Punic tradition, was discovered in Althiburos, an ancient Numidian and Roman town of Tunisia. The Institut National du Patrimoine of Tunis and the Istituto di Studi sulle Civiltà Italiche e del Mediterraneo Antico (CNR) of Rome have started a research program since 2007. The site is particularly interesting for the interplays of various cultures (Numidian, Punic and Roman). The Department ofArchaeological Sciences at University of Pisa has been involved in the research since 2008, with the purpose to investigate the process of romanization.
