Abstract

On Carmen in laudem Solis (Anth. Lat. 389 R. = 385 Sh.-B.) and on Paulinus of Pella, Eucharistichos

The paper focuses on three difficult passages of two late Latin texts, the Laus Solis (Anth. Lat. 385 Sh.-B.) and Paulinus’ Eucharistichos. I propose two conjectures for the text of the Laus (v. 15: condit munera vitae; v. 39: Sol, cui vernanti tellus  respirat odore) and in addition I try to explain the reasons for a textual choice in v. 30 of my Paulinus’ edition. The lesson I have proposed may be criticised (as Cos¸kun and Petruccione did), but the textual tradition is surely corrupt. Alternative solutions (Lucarini: Ioniumque fretum; Letta: occiduumque fretum) are here discussed.
