Abstract

Vasa idonea (Col. 12, 4, 4) in the ager Firmanus: everyday uses and economic activities

This paper deals with the coarse vases and dolia found during the campaigns of the South Picenum Survey Project, in particular in the territory belonging to the Firmum Picenum Latin colony (264 B.C.). In the territory between Tenna and Aso river valleys multidisciplinary researches and field-works have been carried out with a ‘total archaeology’ approach to outline the ancient landscapes in a diachronical perspective. These coarse vases and dolia come from surveyed sites of different typology
(farmsteads; ‘ville’; minor rural units), dating from 3rd-2nd cent. B.C. up to the Late Roman times. They have been studied both from the typological-functional and tecnique-archaeometric points of view. These vases provide a remarkable informative potential, useful to reconstruct many aspects of economy and daily life of the investigated district.
