Abstract

Some observations on the beginnings of imperial property in the Northernprovinces
The discovery of Plumbum Germanicum has offered in recent years anew picture on the beginnings of Res Caesaris. In particular it is theshort life of the provincia Germania (7 BC - 9 AD) which helps us tounderstand the forms and the rapidity of the incorporation of the minesinto the patrimonium of Augustus, Livia and amici principis. This modelcan be effectively extended to Raetia, Noricum and the Alpine provincesin general, so as to conclude that imperial property in the northernprovinces of Augustan conquest is since the beginning a structural partof the provincial perspective.
