OSSERVAZIONI SULL’EPISODIO DI SINONE IN VIRGILIO
Abstract
This paper examines the character of Sinon in Aeneid 2 and his performance. Sinon is a man of words who achieves his goal of deceiving the Trojans and destroying their city through clever verbal fabrication. But the fall of Troy is not merely the result of a clever ‘actor’; rather, it is Ulysses and Minerva who are the true originators of the city’s obliteration. Virgil creates a complex stylistic construction, in which the manifest and the hidden, and innocence and deceitfulness, are masterfully blended.
