CONTRO PLATONE. UNA NOTA SU DIOGENE DI ENOANDA E IL CRATILO

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to shed light on fr. 12, coll. II.11-V Smith by Diogenes of Oinoanda. I will make the case for Diogenes’ systematic reference to Plato’s Cratylus. Moreover, by means of another fragment (fr. 155 Hammerstaedt/Smith), I will show that Diogenes’ criticism against Plato’s cosmic demiurge can be applied also to the nomothetes of the Cratylus; in this sense, I will substantiate a reading proposal by Smith ([κ]ε̣ρ̣κ̣εῖδoς) by means of a known passage from the Cratylus.
