Abstract

«When Herakles arrived to Erythia…»: Geryon in Hesiod, Stesichorus, and Hecataeus

In the Theogony, Hesiod presents Geryon as a three-headed monster, while in the final catalogue of the poem, Geryon appears as a strong and human hero. This difference can be explained applying the theory of ‘multiple approaches’. Both Stesichorus and Hecataeus develop the human qualities of Geryon.
