«SÌ, MA SECONDO LORO…»: PRESENZA E FUNZIONE DEL SINTAGMA κατʹαὐτούϛ” IN SESTO EMPIRICO

Abstract

With regards to Sextus Empiricus's rich corpus, a ‘stylometric' approach,applied here to a single ‘formula' of his prose (i.e. κατʹαὐτούϛ"), seems to confirm that the best translation of it should be ‘according to them', namely according to what they (scil. dogmatic philosophers specifically attacked in this or that section of Sextan works) ‘actually' say/adfirm/maintain, once given for granted Sextus's sources of information, as well as his mediate Pyrrhonian treatment of rival philosophical tenets.
