Abstract

This article focuses on the marble horse that is now preserved at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. In the 16th century, the horse was included in a group of statues that represented the Slaying of Niobe’s Children placed in the Villa Medici on the Pincian Hill in Rome. This article reconsiders and corrects the provenance so far attributed to the horse, while also addressing the history of other marble horses found in Rome in the 16th century.
